Public Works Activities

Approved: Consideration and award of contract for Citywide Water Feature Maintenance, Bid No. 1124-12.

Hal Arbogast, the city's Director of Public Works and City Engineer, said Cerritos has 17 unique water features – most of which are located at public buildings or streetscapes in or around the Towne Center – that require weekly maintenance. According to Arbogast, the Dolphin fountain in front of requires daily maintenance. The staff presented a contract which covers maintenance for all of the features, but pricing for extraordinary repairs such as pump replacement keeps pricing at an indefinite amount.

“The funding for this routine maintenance is included in the public works department operating budget in the facilities maintenance area,” Arbogast said. “This contract provides for both routine maintenance and extraordinary maintenance. Unfortunately because of the unknown aspect of that type of maintenance we've asked the contractors to provide unit pricing for comparison for that type of work, but the actual dollar amount of that contract will fluctuate depending upon how much extraordinary maintenance is required during the course of the year.”

Arbogast said the over the past five years, the contract has been in the neighborhood of about a $100,000 a year, including both routine and extraordinary maintenance.
