The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County declined today for the second time in 39 days, dropping four-tenths of a cent to $4.395.

The average price is 1.3 cents more than one week ago, 44.8 cents higher than a month ago and 42.2 cents greater than a year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

"California's wholesale gasoline prices have reportedly dropped by 50 cents from their high point reached in February, so if that drop sticks, cheaper gasoline should soon be making its way to the pumps,'' said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

"However, we know that prices are particularly volatile in the spring and any incident relating to supply could send wholesale prices back up.''
