Thank you Patch.com for this uplifting article! City of Cerritos Councilmember Mark E. Pulido is my brother. Our parents, Rudy & Ester Pulido, instilled in us a strong value system based on honesty and integrity. I applaud "Concerned Citizen" and "FLF" for asking (albeit anonymously) their question. President Barack Obama declared on Wednesday that he now supports same-sex marriage, according to the Huffington Post. The announcement may come as a shock to some, considering that no sitting president has ever publicly backed the issue. "I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don't Ask Don't Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a …

Artesia Celebrates Cinco de Mayo

AJ Padelford park hosts its annual Cinco de Mayo celebration, a long-standing tradition that has become a fixture to the Artesia community. Assemblyman Tony Mendoza reflects on the positive changes at the park and in the community.

AJ Padelford Park was the site for one of the city’s longest running, and most elaborate Cinco de Mayo celebrations on Saturday afternoon. Artesians were treated to authentic Mexican food, games for the kids, music, and performances by some local children as the city's Department of Parks and Recreation put on its annual Cinco de Mayo festival -- a celebration that has been part of the city’s history for more than 20 years. The festivities began with music from Mariachi Los Tequileros, and a special performance from Miguel Angel Espinosa. They day was capped off by a Ballet Folklorico directed by Manuel Ramirez that was a feast for the eyes and ears. The parents group provided all the delicious tacos and quesadillas with proceeds from the …

CSU Faculty Statewide Authorize Strike if Needed

Should contract negotiations remain unchanged, then fall classes may start two days late for 450,000 students at 23 Cal State campuses, teachers say.

California State University teachers overwhelmingly authorized two-day rolling strikes at the CSU's 23 campuses should ongoing contract talks fail to reach an agreement. The vote by 95% of faculty to okay strikes only legally enables the walk-outs in the event talks fail. But the two-week voting period by a 70% turnout of California Faculty Association members was endorsed by 95%, it was announced at California State University, Long Beach Wednesday. "Nobody wants to go on strike," said Teri Yamada, head of the Long Beach State CFA chapter and an Asian American Studies professor, who is also the faculty advisor for the Cambodian student club. "But two years ago, CFA asked to just keep the contract as is, due to economic strife, just keep …
