Vikings Win at Canal Park

Teamwork takes the Vikings to a win 5-4 over Crestwood at Canal Park.

Saturday was a beautiful day and a great day to be at a baseball game. An even better day to be at Canal Park in Akron watching the Vikings take on the Crestwood Red Devils.

That night was about every player having a chance to take the field and compete with their teammates on a minor league field, every player had a chance to make a contribution and every player delivered!

The play of the game came in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs and the tying runner on base. Ben Thomas, a junior, hit a deep triple to left center, almost 400 feet, to bring in that tying run. As Crestwood made a pitching change to try to hold the tie and take the game into extra innings, Ben stood on third base as his teammates and friends congratulated him and even brought him out a water.

Crestwood intentionally walked the two Austins (Feinberg and Appleby) to force an out but instead forced a walked and won the game for the Vikings. As Ben Thomas crossed the plate, the Vikings rushed the field to dog pile on their clutch player. That is what baseball is all about.

Saturday night they were a team, playing as a team and winning as a team. Final score Hoover 5, Crestwood 4.

That is so cool! What a great day for the team to be able to play in Canal Park and get a win there!

The writer of this story needs to quit the flowery BS and stick to the facts. It's about a baseball game, not a wedding.

Hey, Philip. Thanks for the opinion. Now here's mine: I loved the way Anne wrote the blog. It's in her own voice, which she's entitled to do, especially as a blogger for Patch. In fact, we hope that bloggers write in any style that they want. It makes things interesting here at North Canton Patch.

As a male I appreciate Anne's insight and dedication in bringing us these reports and great pictures. Baseball isn't just a man's game anymore. In addition, baseball is more than facts and figures. It is an institution that is part of the American fabric. If you just want the facts and only the facts you are missing out on some very important aspects of the game.
