CFGC Members Honored at Annual Installation and Awards Dinner

The event recognizes the Board of Directors for their hard work and dedication in supporting child abuse prevention for low-income children and families in the community.

The Community Family Guidance Center (CFGC) and CFGC Foundation in Cerritos held its Annual Installation and Awards Dinner at the Clearwater Building on June 28 in Paramount. The event recognizes the Board of Directors for their hard work and dedication in supporting child abuse prevention and mental health services for low-income children and families in the community.

This year’s event recognized outgoing CFGC President George Ray and outgoing CFGC Foundation Chairman Dr. Bob Hughlett for their dedicated service the past two years. Also recognized were Jim Edwards, the outgoing Secretary for both boards, and other outgoing board members.

Three new board officers were installed for the 2012-2014 term: Dr. Hughlett as the CFGC President, Dr. Leslie Wind as the CFGC Foundation Chair, and Ellen Latino as Secretary for both boards.

Dr. Hughlett and Dr. Wind took the opportunity to speak about their plans as president and Chair, respectively, for the next two years. Dr. Hughlett spoke about new initiatives in development at the center and his excitement about launching them in the coming months.

The initiatives include Families First, a collaboration with the Norwalk-La Mirada USD Headstart Program which provides parenting education and mental health services to preschool students and their families; the School Community Support Program, in which therapists from CFGC will integrate into local schools to provide mental health services to K-12 students to improve their mental health challenges, behavioral issues and improve their social skills and well-being; and a collaboration with Su Casa~Ending Domestic Violence, which integrates mental health, child abuse, and domestic violence services.

Dr. Wind also spoke of her desire to develop and launch a five-year strategic fundraising plan to fund the new initiatives and other projects.
