Editor's Note: The 2012 Rose Parade will be held on Monday, Jan. 2 because New Year's Day falls on a Sunday.
For the second consecutive year the city of Cerritos will not be participating in the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena.
The decision to end Cerritos' string of beloved and trophy-winning entries in the annual Rose Parade was initially made in May 2010 in an effort to contain costs and remain financially prudent given the instability of California's economy.
"The city declined the invitation to participate due to the economic challenges caused by the recession," said then Cerritos Mayor Joseph Cho. "The United States recession is the worst one in 70 years, and the City of Cerritos is not immune to its effects."
And now, with the , including Cerritos which stands to lose roughly $30 million -- 25 percent of the city's total budget -- it makes one wonder if the city will ever join the Rose Parade festivities again.
