Elbows Knows How to Say--and Win With--"Cheese!"

When it comes to anything cheese, in Cerritos knows how to cook it, bake it, grill it and now win with it.

At the 10th Anniversary of the Grilled Cheese Invitational held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Elbows captured second place and the Judges Award for its tasty, incredibly delicious Masala Grilled Cheese sandwich.

The event was created in 2003 by Tim Walker, an artist who lived in a loft in Downtown Los Angeles, as a friendly competition between friends. Since then, the GCI has grown into a national movement dedicated to perfecting the art of grilled cheese, with thousands of cheese fiends and regional competitions across the country.

The GCI promotes the pursuit of perfection in a Grilled Cheese “Sammich” and allows for amateur and professional chefs to compete side-by-side in the hopes of becoming a true Grilled Cheese Champion.

So what’s the secret behind Elbows’ grilled cheese sandwiches? The Masala is made with sharp cheddar, grilled peppers and onions, Paneer Tikka, and a blend of aromatic Indian spices.

Other favorites include the Swiss Mac, the Jalapeno Mac, and the Classic Mac. The newest grilled cheese is the Enchilada Mac, which consists of green chili enchilada, pepperjack cheese, roasted Anaheim, and pasilla chilies and onions

Elbows adds macaroni and cheese to all its sandwiches, and also have added homemade pretzels with cheese fondue.

Every Tuesday this summer, from 5 p.m. -9 p.m., Elbows will have “Family and Friends Game Night,” in which teams of players will compete on board games.

And hopefully dine on something cheesy.
