Faulty Cable Leaves 500 SoCal Edison Customers in the Dark

The outage began about 9 p.m. Friday night, affecting roughly 500 residential and business consumers in the Cerritos area.

A faulty cable in an underground vault triggered a power outage on Friday night that left roughly 500 Southern California Edison customers without power in the Cerritos-Artesia area, according to utility company.

The problem was reported about 9 p.m. Friday near Studebaker Road and Artesia Boulevard, according to an SCE spokeswoman.

Roughly 500 customers were affected by the outage, she said, adding that repairs crews immediately responded to the site of the problem and power was restored in roughly 30 minutes to about 400 customers.

Some residents in the area reported seeing a flash of light in the sky around the time the power went out. 

According to the utility company, some 95 customers along Studebaker Road between Artesia Boulevard and 183rd Street were still without power as of Saturday afternoon, but crews were working to have the problem fixed by the evening.
