Fierce Weekend Wind Topples Cerritos Tree

The weekend weather brought both rain and heavy wind throughout the area. Did any of the trees topple in your neighborhood?

As rain moved through the Southland this past weekend, fierce winds also swept their way through Cerritos and Artesia, with some gusts so powerful it toppled trees and branches in the area.

That was the case in the 12200 block of Thornlake Avenue in Cerritos, where sometime between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday "the heavy winds coupled with the damp soil toppled a tree into an adjoining yard," leaving a nearby sidewalk blocked, resident Dennis McGorman told Patch.

"The tree has been slanting for years," McGorman said, adding that city workers were on site by 7 p.m. to remove the tree from the sidewalk.
