As we proudly complete our first full year of local news coverage in the Cerritos and Artesia community, we take a look back at the year that was 2011. From Wednesday through Saturday, we'll count down the Top 10 Stories read on Cerritos-Artesia Patch this year.

The community was shook when a brazen group of burglars broke into  during the overnight hours of Nov. 29-30 and cleaned the school's computer lab out of its entire fleet of Apple iMacs, valued at roughly $36,000.

Dozens packed the ABC School Board's Oct. 18 meeting to passionately voice their opinion on the naming of 's new Media Arts Center. Whitney alumni pushed toward naming the building after the school's founding principal, Robert S. Beall, who passed away on Oct. 5. Others believe that the building should be named after the highest building donor, former Cerritos Mayor Grace Hu, who gave the school a $750,000 gift donation for the project. The school board ultimately decided that the building would be named at a later date and that the primary focus should be on completing the building construction.

On March 22 the Cerritos Regional Chamber of Commerce crowned longtime Cerritos resident, Stephanie Peterson, the 2011 Miss Cerritos. Lisa Lifton and Michelle Yoo were also named to the city's Royal Court. As part of their year in reign, the trio has been given the opportunity to network with the region's business leaders while developing their own contacts and relationships to further their careers goals.
