Looking for a way to make another person's Christmas a little brighter? Celebrate this year's season of giving by adopting a grandparent.
Mother-daughter tandem, Holly and Jennifer Noble, along with five other Mary Kay consultants, are spearheading the unique holiday effort to help give special gifts to 60 seniors living at the Soroptimist Village, a section 8 subsidized senior housing community in Norwalk.
"This is about making someone else's holiday more special," Jennifer told Patch. "Most of these residents don't have family living nearby and they're just blessed to have roofs over their heads, but they don't get much during the holidays."
The Nobles, who are active Cerritos Chamber members, are trying to collect $10 donations for each grandparent and hope to end up with at least $600 collectively. In turn, they will use the money raised to purchase foot cream and a pair of cozy socks for each of the 60 gift recipients. The group plans to wrap and deliver the gifts to the seniors during their annual holiday dinner party at Soroptimist Village on Thursday, Dec. 13.
"This is the first time we've taken this project on as a unit," Jennifer said. "We've participated in other holiday causes with other groups, but this year we contacted Soroptimist Village directly and told them we wanted to do this. They were really excited because while they do receive donations from other groups, they don't always have enough to give to everyone. We're going to make sure every single person will get a gift this year."
To adopt a grandparent this holiday season, send your $10 donation to Jennifer & Holly Noble at 10317 Spruce Street, Bellflower, CA 90706. Checks can be made payable to either "Jennifer Noble" or "Holly Noble" -- please make sure you note that the money is for the "Adopt a Grandparent Fund." Donations must be received by Dec. 13, 2012.
