Unemployment in Cerritos and Artesia Drops in September

The local unemployment rate drops slightly according to data recently released by the California Employment Development Department.

Data recently released by the California Employment Development Department (EDD) shows that more individuals in both Artesia and Cerritos re-entered the workforce in September, coinciding with an overall drop in the unemployment rate throughout Los Angeles County last month.

Unemployment in Artesia and Cerritos was at 8.9 percent (700 unemployed) and 6.7 percent (1,900 unemployed), respectively, during the month of September, according to EDD. In August, Artesia held a 9.2 percent UE rate while Cerritos was at 7 percent.

Countywide, the UE rate dropped from 12.5 percent in August to 12.4 percent in September, EDD reported.

Earlier this month,  signed Assembly Bill 22 into law -- a bill authored by State Assemblyman Tony Mendoza, D-Artesia, that limits the use of pre-employment credit checks for many employers. Those in favor of this law believe that the banning of these credit screenings will help cultivate jobs hires statewide.
