Instant Chalkboard
Chalkboards have a certain charm that transfers well to almost any situation. Chalk paint opened up a new world of shapes and sizes of chalkboards. You can paint an entire wall or just make a memo board - the possibilities are endless.
For the purposes of this project, you will create a small chalkboard that can be used as a small gift, sign, or message board.
What You Need
- Sturdy card stock or paper product
- Hole puncher
- Ribbon
- Chalk
- Chalk paint in a spray paint can
- Scrap paper or old newspaper
Step 1
Cut out your desired shape from your paper product. Alternatively, you can purchase pre-cut paper shapes from your local craft store.
Step 2
Use a hole puncher to create holes in your paper shape. These will be used to hang your chalkboard.
Step 3
Lay out your scrap paper or old newspaper in a well-ventilated area. Cover enough area to protect the surface from spray paint.
Step 4
Ensure that your paper shape is clean and lay it down for spray painting.
Step 5
Carefully read the directions on your chalk paint and spray accordingly. Depending on the type or brand of chalk paint, you will likely need to apply two coats and allow to dry for at least 24 hours.
Step 6
Once thoroughly dry, break in your chalkboard by rubbing chalk over the entire surface.
Step 7
Wipe of the excess chalk.
Step 8
String your ribbon through the holes. Tie knots at the ends of the ribbon to secure it to the chalkboard.
Step 9
Write a message, hang it up, and enjoy!
