Craft of the Week: Paper Tissue Pom Poms

Though National Craft Month is coming to an end, we have a simple project that can help you welcome the Spring.

Crafts are a great way to exercise your artistic side, but they are also very useful at bringing people together. March is National Craft Month so in celebration, Patch invites you to participate in the Craft of the Week.

Each week, we will post a simple and easy project for your enjoyment. This is a great opportunity for you to reconnect with your friends and family while enjoying a weekly craft night.

Paper Tissue Pom Pom
Spring is in the air and the flowers are in bloom. This week's craft was inspired by the flowers that are coming into season all around Cerritos and Artesia, specifically the dandelions sprouting in . These pom poms are very easy to make and they add a breath of fresh air to any Spring party or event.

What You Need

  • Several Sheets of Tissue Paper (the kind used for gift wrapping)
  • Scissors
  • String

Step 1
Layer 8 sheets of tissue paper (standard size: approximately 20x23 inches). Layering different shades or patterns can had some interesting depth to your pom  poms.

Step 2
Beginning at one end, fold the tissues into 1.5inch accordion or zig-zag fold as shown. Do this to the entire length of the tissues.

Step 3
By now, you should have one 1.5inch thick strip of folded tissue paper. Cut the two edges of this strip into your desired shape. Shown here, the tissue is cut with a rounded edge. Alternatively, the edged can be left alone or cut zig-zagged, frayed, or to a point.

Step 4
Using a string, tie the center of your strip. If you do not have string, you can use a rubber band, twist tie, or any similar tool to fasten the center of your strip.

Step 5
Begin to spread out and separate the tissue folds. Continue separating the folds until your strip looks more spherical or like a dandelion. Take care not to tear the thin tissue paper. However, do not fret if you have some tears. Once the project it complete, no one will notice any small tears.

Step 6
Find a place to hang your pom pom and enjoy!

The paper tissue pom poms are very easy to make and the color possibilities are endless. To assemble smaller pom poms, used smaller sheets of tissue paper and proportionately fewer layers when you being at Step 1.

These pom poms make a great decoration for any Spring occasion:

  • Birthdays
  • Easter Egg Hunts
  • Casual Engagement Parties / Weddings
  • Picnics / Barbecues / Pool Parties

National Craft Week is coming to an end but there are many opportunities to continue crafting in Cerritos and Artesia for all ages:

When it comes to the FREE newspaper (or anything else that's free) -- the old saying applies: YouRead More get what you pay for.

To call this "rag" a newspaper is a joke. They only put partial truths, always sided to aRead More covert friend of the writer and never have done the background investigation to be able to establish validity!
