Craft of the Week: Recycled Glass Lantern

Warm up your summer nights with some of these glass jar lights.

Crafts are a great way to exercise your artistic side but they are also very useful at bringing people together.

Each week, we will post a simple and easy project for your enjoyment. This is a great opportunity for you to reconnect with your friends and family while enjoying a weekly craft night.

Glass Jar Lantern
Summer is upon us, which means more backyard barbeques, pool parties, and other outdoor events. Warm summer nights are a great time to enjoy candle lit dinners and gatherings under the stars.

You can collect a variety of sizes and shapes from the glass jars found in your kitchen. Jars are often used to store sandwich spreads, condiments, coffee, drinks, and other miscellaneous foods. The glass jar lantern is a perfect craft for people that want to customize their light fixtures and recycle at the same time.

What You Need

  • Glass Jar
  • White Glue
  • Water
  • Tissue Paper
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Candle
  • Paintbrush (optional)

Step 1
Clean out a glass jar of your choice. Soak the jar in water in order to loosen up the labels. Scrub labels off until jar is clean.

Step 2
Set up your work station on top of a sheet of aluminum foil or other non-stick surface.

Step 3
Dilute white glue with water until loose but not runny.

Step 4
Shred tissue paper into half inch squares. You can vary the size and shape to your artisitic preferences.

Step 5
Lay your first square of tissue paper onto the jar.

Step 6
Using your fingers or paintbrush, adhere the square to the jar's surface using the dilute glue. The glue should spread easily but should not be runny.

Step 7
Repeat Step 6 until the entire jar is covered.

Step 8
Allow jar to dry thoroughly.

Step 9
Place the jar somewhere scenic, add the candle, light up, and enjoy!

Fun Tip: Decorate different sizes and shapes of jars with different colors, designs, and textures. This can add a fun and completely unique component to your home or yard decor.

I've noticed that a lot of people take jobs in food service while they pursue long-term jobs thatRead More match their field of study. If they do, they need to be certified in food safety. They can learn about this at http://www.SafeFoodAcademy.com.

To call this "rag" a newspaper is a joke. They only put partial truths, always sided to aRead More covert friend of the writer and never have done the background investigation to be able to establish validity!
