The Cerritos Auto Square sold 49,563 cars in 2012, boasting a nearly 26 percent gain of 10,173 vehicles compared to 2011.
Nationwide, sales of passenger cars and light trucks increased by approximately 13 percent, according to automotive-industry tracking firm Autodata.
“The city of Cerritos congratulates the Cerritos Auto Square on its exceptional sales in 2012," said Jim Edwards, who was mayor of Cerritos at the time the figures were released. "The City is delighted to be home to the world's most successful auto mall. The Cerritos Auto Square provides thousands of jobs and generates millions of dollars in sales tax revenues which help fund public safety, library and recreation services.”
Matt Browning, the 2012 president of the Cerritos Auto Square Dealers Association and the general manager of Cerritos Acura said the numbers is a reflection of the rebounding economy.
“We've been excited about the rebound in the economy and how it was reflected in vehicle sales," Browning said. "2012 was a great year compared to 2009, 2010 and 2011, without any major disruptions such as earthquakes or tsunamis.”
Browning anticipates strong sales will continue in 2013.
“The real estate market is stabilizing and boosting consumer confidence. The average age of the United States vehicle fleet is the oldest it has ever been, so there is a lot of pent-up demand," he said. "Every manufacturer has great products and the Cerritos Auto Square has an extensive selection of products to serve the needs of every consumer out there.”
