Cerritos OfficeMax Closing Up Shop for Good

The office supply store at the Cerritos Towne Center will be shutting its doors for good on Dec. 29, 2012. Everything inside the business is currently 40 to 60 percent off.

OfficeMax at the Cerritos Towne Center will be shutting its doors for good on Dec. 29, marking the departure of one of the city's few office supply-centered retailers.

News of the business' immenent closure came as quite a surprise for some with an announcement simply being posted on the glass storefront of the business located at 12865 Towne Center Dr. -- adjacent to Trader Joe's.

"I'm pretty disappointed by their closing. Now there's not going to be a good office supply and services store nearby," Cerritos resident Anthony D. Morrow told Patch.

The store's shelves are already starting to empty out with everything currently on sale for 40 to 60 percent off.

Until then, the business remains open Mon - Fri from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sat from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sun from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information call Cerritos OfficeMax at (562) 468-1131.

There is another major office supply store in Cerritos. Staples has a full-service store in the northwest corner of the city at Alondra and Studebaker near Home Depot. However, those of us on the east side of Cerritos will miss Office Max.

Duly noted Mr. Kappe and thanks for pointing that out! I think you're right in that it the closing of OfficeMax takes away the convenience for those located in the east & southern region of the city. ~ MarieSam

I thought Staples on Alondra was also selling office supplies. You said Office Max was the only one in Cerritos.

Darielle, see above comments from former mayor Sherman Kappe, it has been duly noted and corrected. Living on the southside of Cerritos I often forget that the Home Depot shopping center is actually in Cerritos and not on the bordering city of Norwalk. Article has been updated to reflect that. Thanks, MarieSam

Sure hate to see Office Max close, not only because of the convenience it's been but also because it means there will be people losing their jobs.

It is always sad to see a business close, but I'll have to say that I quit going to Office Max in Cerritos many years ago because of horrendous customer service. Around 8 a.m. one morning without another customer in sight, I was told by the only cashier on duty that she couldn't ring me up because she was going on break and walked away. I stood there with my couple items in my hands and looked over at the employee sorting ink cartridges behind the customer service counter when he proceeded to tell me he didn't have a register. I set my things down and left. I'm sorry, but good riddance, Office Max! Maybe your doors wouldn't be shuttered if your employees were a little bit better trained in customer rapport.

Sad to see them go.
So who is next in that center now that the predatory landlord allowed PetSmart to open up right across the same parking lot from Petco who has been a loyal tenant for years. I would be seriously peeved if I were them.

Sorry to hear the news. Office Max in Cerritos Town Center donated over $5000 of school supplies to ABCUSD Education Foundation when we hosted a backpack drive for the homeless students right before school started in Sep. 2012. (see 9/06/12 news on Patch)

Wow. Last year Officemax in Yorba Linda shut down. Six months before that the Officemax in Huntington Beach closed down for good. The store in Laguna Niguel deserves to shut down. The store is always empty. Time to get rid of all my rewards.

Not surprised the Cerritos Towne Center Office Max is closing. Everytime I go there, the store has only 2-5 customers. The help are of no help. More help than customers. One cashier. Shame.

I've noticed that a lot of people take jobs in food service while they pursue long-term jobs thatRead More match their field of study. If they do, they need to be certified in food safety. They can learn about this at http://www.SafeFoodAcademy.com.
