In elections that concluded last week, nearly 300 healthcare workers at College Hospital Cerritos voted to form a union with Service Employees International Union.
The hospital is a 157-bed psychiatric facility that serves youth, adult and seniors with development disabilities and mental health conditions.
Service and technical workers as well as nurses voted in the affirmative by more than double to join, according to a press release featured on Business Wire.
In the coming weeks, caregivers at College Hospital will prepare to negotiate their respective new contracts. Top priorities include improvements to patient care, safety and job security, the press release said.
According to its website, the hospital has special senior, youth and Latino programs.
