Cerritos Golden Spoon Serves Its Final Scoop

After serving up smiles and frozen treats to Cerritos and Artesia locals for nearly two decades, the  shop at the Cerritos Towne Center has shut its doors, for good.

The owner of the frozen yogurt shop recently opted not to renew the business' lease when it expired, according to the city. It had been a fixture in the center's diverse mix of eateries since July 1994.

News of the store's closure has slowly spread with most patrons learning of the now vacant business from a sign posted on the glass storefront, which states:

"Story closing permanently as of 8/5. Thank you for your long time patronage. Please visit our Lakewood location on Woodruff and South Street."

For Cerritos resident, Gilbert Marin, finding out his favorite frozen yogurt stop was shut down came as quite a shock.

"We came to the Towne Center this past week, and my wife usually gets her and I usually come over here to Golden Spoon. So we walked up to it and saw the sign and I just couldn't believe it ... I'm very disappointed," said Marin, who over the last 12 years has made it a ritual to visit the shop at least three times a month -- so much so he says he's filled at least eight frequent buyer cards over the years. 

"I usually get a medium vanilla with hot fudge, sometimes with peanuts on it, but usually just the hot fudge," he said. "I'll have to hit more now, I guess!"

The Golden Spoon franchise prides itself on being the "ice cream lover's frozen yogurt" by creating its own recipes with premium formulations at reasonable for its loyal customers, according to the business' website.
