Aspiring Lawyer, Future Child Advocate Named Miss Cerritos 2013

Three young women were named to the 2013 Miss Cerritos court at the Cerritos Regional Chamber of Commerce's March 20 event.

Lauren Caron, a law student who aspires to be a special education lawyer, has been named Miss Cerritos 2013 by the Cerritos Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Karen Guzman and Rajvi Rami were also named as Miss Cerritos princesses at the Miss Cerritos 2013 Contest held on March 20 at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.

The Miss Cerritos court equally represents the Chamber as Ambassadors at events throughout the year including luncheons, networking mixers, and grand openings.

Caron, who graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a double major in psychology and sociology, is currently attending Whittier Law School and is studying to be a special education lawyer. She attributes her personal experience of hearing loss as a deciding factor in her decision to become an advocate for children who are in need of services to help them succeed in school.

She is also currently a fellow in the Center for Children’s Rights at Whittier Law School, focusing on children’s rights and special education law -- something that she explains is fueled by her passion to help people and make a difference in their lives.

As Miss Cerritos, Caron said she is looking forward to meeting individuals in the business world who can teach her the valuable skills needed to succeed as a successful attorney and businesswoman. 

Miss Cerritos Princess Karen Guzman currently attends California State University of L.A. and Cerritos College where she is pursuing a career in law enforcement. Guzman is passionate about protecting her community, helping others, being a leader, and motivating others to follow their dreams. She has gained experience in preparation for this career as a member of the Public Safety Cadet Program. Guzman believes that Cerritos is a city of many friendly, hard-working, loving, and strong people who come together as a family to make a great place to call home. As a Miss Cerritos Princess, Guzman is looking forward to being a guide for the city and helping the commmunity preserve its amazing traditions. 

Miss Cerritos Princess Rajvi Rami grew up in the city of Cerritos and graduated from Cerritos High School, and is currently in the Honors Program at Fullerton College. With a passion for children and medical studies, Rami is pursuing a career as a pediatrician. She has volunteered for the city of Cerritos and is currently employed by the Recreation Services of Cerritos as a Recreation Leader at Heritage Park. Rami, a proud Cerritos resident, said Cerritos is a great place to live because it is clean, safe, and has the best schools. She is looking forward to giving back and representing her hometown.

The Miss Cerritos program provides young women with the opportunity to network with the region’s business leaders and develop professional contacts that will help further their professional careers. The contestants are evaluated on poise, positive attitude, networking skills, and professional appearance.
