Lazy Dog Cafe Gives Back to the Hungry in Area

The restaurant has donated a large sum raised through its annual holiday gift card program.

Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar, with locations throughout Southern California, announced today it has a $15,055 donation for Lon Beach-based The Foodbank of Southern California through proceeds raised during Lazy Dog's second annual holiday gift card program.

“With the donation, The Foodbank will be able to provide one million nutrient-rich meals to those in need as part of their mission to serve the underserved throughout Southern California,” company representatives wrote in a news release issued today.

This is the second year that Lazy Dog has dedicated funds from sales of their holiday gift card to the cause, according to the news release.

Like last year, when more than $15,000 was raised through the effort, for every $25 gift card purchase made between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31, Lazy Dog donated the equivalent of 30 warm meals to The Foodbank, allowing gift givers to pay the giving spirit forward to those who need it the most, company representatives wrote

“After the great success of our holiday gift card program last year, all of us at Lazy Dog felt passionate about making it an annual tradition,” Lazy Dog owner Chris Simms said through the written statement. “It's easy to get caught up in the craziness of the holidays, so we are glad to do our part to celebrate the true spirit of the season with a fundraiser that gives back to those who don't always have the luxury of a warm meal."

The Foodbank of Southern California provides highly nutritious food to at least 250,000 people each week, or about 2.5 percent of Los Angeles County’s population. It serves 67 highly-nutritious meals for every $1 donation, officials said.
