Southland Gasoline Prices Fall For 18th Straight Day

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline fell in Los Angeles County today for the 18th consecutive day, dropping 1 cent to $4.258, its lowest amount since Feb. 24.

The average price is 4.7 cents less than a week ago and 13.8 cents lower than one month ago but 6.5 cents more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. Today's decline was the 22nd in the past 23 days.

The average price has decreased 12.8 cents over the past 23 days, including eight-tenths of a cent on Thursday.

The Orange County average price fell today for the 18th consecutive day and 24th time in 25 days, decreasing nine-tenths of a cent to $4.232, its lowest amount since Feb. 23.

The Orange County average price is 5.2 cents less than a week ago and 14.8 cents lower than one month ago but 5.4 cents more than one year ago.

The Orange County average price has decreased 13.9 cents over the past 25 days, including 1.1 cents on Thursday.

"A little more price competition appears to be happening among gas stations, which is good news for drivers,'' said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California. "Drivers can help encourage further price reductions by shopping around for the best prices, as long as they're not driving far out of their way.''

He said that "as of today, Paramount and Huntington Beach are among the cities with the lowest gas prices, according to AAA.com/TripTik.''
