Southland Gasoline Prices Take a Dip

It's your price at the pump heading into the weekend of Sept. 14-16; use our handy Patch tool to find your lowest gas prices in the neighborhood.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped by a half-cent today to $4.165, one day after decreasing by six-tenths of a cent.

The back-to-back decreases are the first since a 57-day streak of decreases ended July 13, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 1.3 cents less than one week ago, but 6.2 cents more than one month ago and 20.4 cents higher than one year ago.

The Orange County average price fell for the fourth consecutive day, dropping seven-tenths of a cent to $4.141. The streak of declines is the longest since a 53-day streak ended July 9.

The Orange County average price is 1.6 cents less than one week ago, but 5.3 cents more than one month ago and 20.5 cents higher than one year ago. It dropped a half-cent on Thursday, two-tenths of a cent on Wednesday and one- tenth of a cent on Tuesday.

"Prices throughout the region dropped very slightly during the past week for the first time since July," said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

"It's too soon to tell whether or not this signals the traditional fall downturn in prices, but at least consumers can expect the same price or lower at the pump as last week rather than an increase."
