9/11 Remembrance Events Scheduled in the Community

Ceremonies and events for the 10th anniversary of 9/11 planned in the community.

Services and events marking the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks are planned in the Cerritos and Artesia area.


Cerritos Patriot Day Ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 11

Cerritos residents and community members are invited to attend a special Evening of Remembrance and Candlelight Memorial on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cerritos Civic Center. Patriotic prelude music performed by Cerritos Community College Band will begin at 6:15 p.m., followed by a performance by the children of Cerritos College Community Band Director David Bettancourt. The event will be held in honor of the victims and heroes affected by the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 and will also feature performances by the New Life Community Church Bell Choir, , Rochone Anderson and the Surf City Singers.

The event will also include a formal ceremony with the Cerritos City Council, a candlelight memorial and a moment of silence. In addition, in recognition of September being “National Preparedness Month: A Time to Remember, A Time to Prepare,” volunteers from the City's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Volunteers on Patrol (VOPS) will offer information to help residents prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.

Cerritos College Presents "Celebrate America" on Monday, Sept. 12

The Associated Students of Cerritos College will host a 9/11 remembrance event "Celebrate America" in the Falcon Square Amphitheatre on campus. The event also celebrates the anniversary of the United States Constitution and recognizes its importance in our nation's history.
