Norwalk Kumon Owner Accused of Molesting 13-Year-Old Student Postpones Plea

Arraignment for Norwalk Kumon tutor Frank Chung, 63, has been postponed to Oct. 25.

Arraignment was postponed Monday for at least the second time in the case of a 63-year-old man charged with molesting a 13-year-old girl at the Norwalk Kumon Learning Center, the Press-Telegram has reported.

Kumon's Norwalk franchisee, Frank Chung, was arrested at his home in La Palma on Sept. 8 after being accused of molesting a 13-year-old student at the learning center, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Special Victims Bureau.

Chung owned and operated the Kumon Center in Norwalk for five years, according to detectives. He also spent about 25 years tutoring children in Northern California, prompting investigators to search for other possible victims.

According to Bellflower Superior Court staff, Chung has yet to enter a plea in the case. His arraingment has now been postponed to Oct. 25, the Press-Telegram reported.

He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail for suspicion of lewd acts with a minor, according to the Sheriff's Department.

After Chung's arrest, the Kumon corporation issued a statement informing parents of children at the Norwalk center, located at 11657 The Plaza, that they could “immediately transfer students to any other Kumon Center if they would prefer to do so at no additional cost to the family.''
