Be Prepared, LAX Officials Believe Airport Will Be Close to Its Busiest Today

Dec. 23 and the two days before New Year's Eve are expected to be among the busiest travel days at Los Angeles International Airport this year, according to airport officials.

Los Angeles International Airport is expected to experience one of the year's busiest travel days today, even though officials believe holiday travel in and out of the facility will be flat this year compared to last year.

About 2.9 million passengers are expected to pass through the airport during the 18-day period from Dec. 17 through Jan. 3, the same volume as last year.

Today and the two days before New Year's Eve are expected to be the busiest travel days.

Los Angeles World Airports volunteers in red vests will roam departure areas to assist travelers on peak travel days.

Airport traffic officers will try to prevent drivers from parking or waiting at terminal curbsides for arriving passengers. They plan to distribute leaflets showing alternate parking options, including eight structures in the central terminal area, a cell phone waiting lot at 96th Street and Vicksburg Ave., and Economy Parking Lot C on 96th Street and Sepulveda Boulevard.
