Fresh Roasted Corn at the Cerritos Farmers' Market

Snack on freshly roasted, buttered corn in a cup or skewered!

Whether it’s a hot summer day or a chilly afternoon, freshly roasted skewered corn is always a comforting and tasty snack.  On late Saturday mornings at the Cerritos Farmers' Market, I find Nolin’s Roasted Corn stand to be a great stop.

At this family-owned stand, you can enjoy some freshly roasted skewered corn with butter and other seasonings. All the corn is roasted in the huge grill right behind the stand, so what you’re getting is sure to be fresh. The corn is a perfect harmony of sweet and salty flavors in your mouth!

To try something a little different than your usual corn on the cob, you can get the Mexican-style corn in a cup called esquite. The fresh-cut corn is mixed with pico de gallo sauce, lemon juice, mayonnaise and cheese. The esquite is sold for $3, and the skewered corn is $2.

Though corn is readily available everywhere (canned, frozen, in tortillas, as popcorn), I find freshly roasted corn especially delicious. It’s crunchier, tastier and juicier. It’s a comfort food that can bring out the warm and fuzzy feelings of holiday meals or summer barbeques.

The corn (skewered or in a cup) is easy to eat as you stroll and shop around the rest of the farmers market, and it gives you enough energy to prep and cook a meal with all the fresh produce you've picked up when you get home!
