This weekend's colorful event lineup includes a big, red dog; multi-hued hot rod cars; three golden-voiced golden boys; richly-patterned origami paper; and one Mr. Black.

Why Go: A certain big, red dog is coming to the book store and he is pretty excited about taking pictures with everyone. Little ones will love it.

Why Go: The City of Hawaiian Gardens in association with the Imperials Car Club present this fun car show and fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit Hawaiian Gardens Youth Athletic Leagues. Enjoy plenty of food; vendor booths; music and lots of neat cars, bikes and motorcycles shining in the sun.
Pricing: $5 spectators, kids 12 and younger free with paid adult, $20 car registration, $15 bike registration

Why Go: The new Cerritos Center for the Performing season opens with a bang with three of the most popular teen idols of the late ’50s and early ’60s. "Dick Fox’s Golden Boys" spotlights Frankie Avalon, Fabian, and Bobby Rydell and their all-time greatest hits. The show also includes rare footage from the Bandstand era. For an additional $125, you can attend the pre-concert Season Opening Celebration Cocktail Reception. $100 of the reception ticket price will benefit the CCPA Endowment Fund and is tax-deductible.

When/Where: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. this Sunday, July 17 at the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden at California State University Long Beach, near East Beach Drive and Earl Warren Drive, Long Beach
Why Go: Over 40 origami experts and enthusiasts will be on hand to instruct and share their talents at this annual festival. Attendees of all experience levels can learn how to make a variety of folded paper creations including animals, beautiful shapes and even moveable origami. Free parking will be available in Lot 16's non-metered spaces.
