L.A. Metro to Offer Free Rides on Trains and Buses on New Year's Eve

Let Metro do the driving for you on New Year's Eve for free.

Free rides on the county's buses and trains will be available for those imbibing in the holiday spirits on New Year's Eve.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will offer the free rides from 9 p.m-2 a.m. on Dec. 31 -- one of the year's worst nights for drinking and driving.

"There's never an excuse to drink and drive," said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who urged revelers to let the MTA do the driving New Year's Eve "for free to avoid a senseless drunk driving tragedy.'' The L.A. Mayor chairs the board that oversees the transit authority.
