Patch to Launch Special Series on the 1986 Cerritos Air Disaster Starting Saturday

Patch takes a look back at the tragic plane collision that devastated our town 25 years ago.

Starting on Saturday, Aug. 25 Cerritos-Artesia Patch will feature a special series looking back at the Aug. 31, 1986 mid-air collision between a Piper Cherokee Archer II and an Aeromexico DC-9 that claimed 82 lives, destroyed 11 homes and severely damaged seven other homes.

will include a look back at that tragic day, recollections from those who responded to the site of the catastrophe within moments of the accident, as well as reflections from those who helped bring the community back on its feet in the days, months and years that followed.

Patch will also bring you video and photo highlights from the scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at the Cerritos Air Disaster Memorial in the Sculpture Garden at the Civic Center.
