Today’s Generation Shouldn’t Wait for Jobs, They Should Create Them!

The Rants and Insights of a Twenty Something Professional Business Woman

This blog is essentially dedicated to those young professionals out there, especially women, who are looking to start something on their own. Those that are tired of the 9 to 5, the specified lunch hour, and gazing out their window in a cold unnecessarily air conditioned office, longing to feel the sun.

Before I can share with those who decide my blog is worth the time, you need to know who I am and why I have decided to share what I have learned with those who are looking to read it. I am a young female attorney who one day decided to quit my horrible job and do it on my own.

When I made the decision to start a law firm, Javia & Moore, with a good friend of mine, people looked at me like I was crazy. “You are young!” they exclaimed, “You have only been practicing for three years!” they said. I knew it was true, I WAS young and I HAD only been practicing for 3 years, but it felt like I had been dealing with cases, and Judges and legal matters all my life. I had been working for law firms since I was 18, I had been the receptionist, the secretary and the assistant. Everything else I needed to know I learned in law school, or could easily read, research or ask. Basically, there is no legal question I could not find an answer to, so I thought, how hard could it be?

Well whatever business you are in, the hard part isn’t the actual knowledge needed to help your customers or clients. Its how to GET and KEEP those clients. If you are an accountant, you know your taxes, you know how to help clients. But how do you get those clients? How do you keep those clients coming back, and how do you get those clients to send you more clients? What do you pay your employees? How much do you charge? What color should your website be?

This is what I found to be the hardest part, and still do. Nothing I have ever done has prepared me for the actual task of running a business. Nevertheless, I have learned more in the last year than I ever have in any job I have had, and I have consistently had a job since I was 15. It is the most rewarding feeling in the world. It is a difficult and arduous path, and that is why I have decided to share my rants and insights with whoever is interested. If you read it for amusement, I'm glad you are reading it. If you take something away from it, then I have done my part.
