Former Cerritos Mayor and Councilman James S. Reddick Has Died

Reddick, who was 83, passed away April 16.

James S. Reddick, a former Cerritos mayor and councilman, died April 16 in Knoxville, Tennessee at the age of 83.

Reddick was born in Kentucky and served in both the United States Army and United States Navy. He graduated from the Cal Aero School of Engineering and worked with the space program and Garrett AiResearch.

He was elected to the Cerritos City Council in 1970 and served two terms, through 1978. Reddick served as mayor from 1971 to 1972 and again from 1976 to 1977.

Reddick’s tenure on the City Council was marked by several developments in the City: The Cerritos Redevelopment Agency was established in 1970; The first phase of the Los Cerritos Center was completed in 1971.

After his retiring, Reddick returned to Kentucky and reconnected with his future wife, Betty, whom he married in 1985.

Reddick is survived by his wife and his three children, Jay, Rhonda and Lisa.
