The City of Cerritos sponsors the Family Entertainment Showcase, a summer program that provides family-friendly fun for residents and other locals. Events include Monday Night at the Movies, Tuesday Family Nights, Thursday Concerts Under the Stars, and Friday Concerts at the Plaza.
People of all ages are welcomed to enjoy these free events. These shows are a great way to escape the heat, as families can bask in the cool evening breeze while enjoying good company, movies and music. As the summer unwinds, do your best to catch this last week of summer showcases in 2011.
Monday Night at the Movies (August 29)
Bring your picnic blankets and snacks! The Amphitheatre will be showing the Disney classic Toy Story 3 (rated G). Gates are scheduled to open at 7pm and the film will begin at 8:15pm. Chairs will only be allowed in designated areas, so blankets and other ground seating is encouraged. Some snacks will be available for purchase.
Tuesday Family Nights (August 30)
Families are encouraged to visit for Dave Kinnoin-Music Injected Learning. This special program was designed to help parents and teachers use music to improve kids' language skills. The event will be hosted by award-winning songwriter Dave Kinnoin. This program is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm with a pre-show craft or activity. The show should run about 45 minutes. Families should bring blankets for seating. Snacks will be available for purchase.
Thursday Concerts Under the Stars (September 1)
The City of Cerritos presents Surfin' Safari, the ultimate Beach Boys tribute. Guests are invited to enjoy the musical stylings of America's first supergroup. Enjoy one of our final warm summer nights while you sing along to all your favoirte Beach Boys songs. Bring your picnic blankets to Island Stage for a 7pm show.
Friday Concerts at the Plaza (September 2)
The final concert of the summer showcase series will feature the Crown City Dixieland Band. Dixieland is a musical style that originated in New Orleans and is the earliest form of jazz. Guests are welcome to bring their blankets and picnic supplies to the plaza for an evening filled with beautiful jazz music.
