Tips on Having Summer Fun Without a Summer Sun

June gloom got you down? Cheer up and celebrate summer with these 5 fun activities.

It can be hard to appreciate the first few days of summer when the skies are gray and the sun refuses to play. Thankfully, our hometowns offer a great variety of summer activities to keep up busy during the days of June gloom.

Celebrate June with some of the following activities:

1.) Make a Splash

will help you forget all about June gloom. The park offers a heated pool that is available to residents year-round. The  offers a variety of activities for children and adults, including lap swimming, aerobics, and swim classes for every level of swimmer. Residents can bring up to four guests (non-residents) during recreational swim.

also has an outdoor swim center that is open during the summertime.

2.) Use Blooms to Fight the Gloom
June gloom is a natural part of the summer season, much like the that you see along our city streets. Take this time to stop and smell the roses or, better yet, plant some of your own!

Visit your local hardware store and ask the staff to help you tend your garden. By next summer, you could have a yard of fresh fruit and veggies alongside your favorite flowers and trees.

3.) Have a Picnic or Barbecue
Nothing says summer like a day at the park.  With more than 30 parks in the Cerritos-Artesia area, June gloom is no excuse to avoid a picnic or barbecue. Our local parks offer plenty of green space for your family and friends to enjoy an afternoon of eating, playing, and relaxing.  So dust off your red-checkered blanket and bring out your "Kiss the Cook" apron - it is summertime!

4.) Bust Out Your Beach Cruiser
You don't need a sunny day to enjoy a beach cruiser or any other type of bike. You can ride along the city streets or enjoy a long, relaxing bike ride along the San Gabriel River Trail. This trail connects Cerritos'  to Lakewood's Rynerson Park and Long Beach's El Dorado Regional Park. After all that  biking, you will be glad that the weather is mild and that the summer sun is still in hiding.

5.) Plan Your Dream Vacation
If the weather has  got you down, there is nothing like a dream vacation to lift your spirits! Whether your plan is to drive down to San Diego, go cross country to , or visit the sandy beaches of, a sweet retreat can cure anyone's weather woes.
