24 Hour Fitness Makes Equipment Donation to Sheriff's Lakewood Station

A donation of strength and cardio equipment to the newly renovated gym at the LASD's Lakewood Station helps deputies and employees improve their health and fitness training.

Health club industry pioneer, 24-hour Fitness, is sharing the gift of health with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lakewood Station through a donation of more than 25 strength and cardio machines to the facility’s recently renovated gym.

“The generous donation from 24 Hour Fitness added to the limited equipment we had before the remodel, and provides our deputies and employees with a full workout experience,” said Sgt. Scott Hoglund of the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station, which provides general and specialized community-oriented law enforcement services to more than 270,000 residents in the contract cities of Artesia, Bellflower, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood and Paramount

“Since the gym re-opened in March, the amount of staff exercising on a regular basis has easily doubled,” the sergeant added.

The fitness chain's donation is a part of its efforts to make fitness more available to communities and to promote healthy living.

“We understand that fitness isn’t always easy, and are pleased that the donated equipment makes exercise more convenient for the employees at Lakewood Sheriff’s Station,” said Jim McPhail, Executive Vice President of Real Estate and Chief Development Officer for 24 Hour Fitness.

The newly two-story gym is accessible to station deputies and employees 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and offers strength and cardio equipment as well as a warm-up room, TVs, and a stereo system to assist employees in their workouts.

“We’re excited that the donated equipment and new workout facility will add to our existing health and wellness efforts,” said Hoglund.  “Keeping our staff healthy is a top priority, and we try to encourage fitness among our staff by promoting different activities; whether it's participation in community activities or sharing health and wellness information internally.  The new gym complements these efforts, and provides a place employees can use to stay fit on site.”
