Accident Involving Elderly Man Struck by Car Not Alcohol Related Sheriff's Say

The man hit was identified as Philipose Geevarghese, 79.

Alcohol was not a factor in the death of a 79-year-old man struck by a vehicle as he crossed a Cerritos street, sheriff's department officials said today.

It happened at 7:10 p.m. Saturday on Carmenita Road north of 166th Street, Sgt. G. Berumen of the Cerritos Sheriff's Station said.

"The driver said she did not see him," Berumen said.

The injured man -- identified him as Philipose Geevarghese -- was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead  at 9:04 p.m., according to the Orange County coroner's office.
