Editor's Note: The coins shown in this photo ARE NOT the coins found. in this case. This is a generic file photo.

A burglary crew arrested in Cerritos in late June was caught with coins believed to be part of a coin collection and Cerritos Sheriff's detectives are trying to locate the owner of these items.

The alleged burglars were spotted trying to carry a safe out of a Cerritos home located in 13000 block of Hart Place on June 26. After trying to flee from deputies, the suspects crashed into a commuter bus in Bellflower, Cerritos sheriff's Capt. Keith Swensson told Patch.

During a follow up investigation, deputies discovered the items in the suspects' possession.

"We have lots of stolen coins that appear to be part of a coin collection ... so far, we haven't been able to identify the owner of these items," Swensson said, adding that it was unclear whether they were taken from a Cerritos residence or during a burglary outside of the area.

Anyone with information on the possible owner of these coins should contact the Cerritos Sheriff's Station at (562) 860-0044.
