Big Rigs Collide on 91 Freeway in Artesia, SigAlert Issued

The collision resulted in a 30-gallon diesel spill on the roadway, shutting down the Pioneer Boulevard onramp until at least 12:30 p.m.

Two big rigs collided on the Artesia (91) Freeway in Artesia this morning, causing the closure of an onramp and one lane after one of the semitrailers began leaking diesel fuel, according to the California Highway Patrol.

No injuries were reported in the crash, which was reported just after 4 a.m. Feb. 28 on the westbound side of the freeway at Pioneer Boulevard, said CHP Officer Cheyenne Quesada.

A SigAlert for the westbound freeway onramp from southbound Pioneer Boulevard was issued following the wreck. One freeway lane was also shut down, Quesada said.

Los Angeles County firefighters stopped the fuel leak, but not before 30 gallons flowed into a storm drain, he added. Quesada said a Caltrans crew was quickly summoned to the scene to coordinate the cleanup of the spilled fuel.

The  No. 4 westbound lane reopened just after 6:30 a.m., but the Pioneer Boulevard onramp was expected to be closed until at least 12:30 p.m., the CHP reported.
