Boy Dies After Being Kicked By Horse at Cerritos Stable

The accident involving the 7-year-old from El Monte occurred on Sunday afternoon.

A 7-year-old El Monte boy was fatally injured when he was kicked by a horse at a stable in Cerritos, authorities reported today.

Edwin Ruiz was injured in the 10000 block of Artesia Boulevard about 2:15 p.m. Sunday. He died at a hospital a couple of hours later, said Los Angeles Department of Coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

The boy was kicked in the side by the horse, and his death was being investigated as accidental, Winter said.

Contrary to some reports, the accident did not occur at Cerritos' , owner Mary Buell told Patch.

" and we (B & B) have never had anything happen like that," she said. "We feel so bad for the parents of this child."

Buell said the accident occurred at a stable that houses horses, mostly Stallions, on a plot of land located behind the Extra Space storage facility across the street from B&B Stables.
