A motorist struck and injured a 16-year-old boy on a bike in Cerritos Sunday night, authorities said.

The accident occurred on Bloomfield Avenue at Artesia Boulevard about 8:30 p.m. June 24, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim was taken to a hospital following the accident,  Capt. Joe Gonzales said. His injuries were not considered serious and he was later released, sheriff's Lt. George Berumen added.

"The driver of the vehicle may have had a seizure," triggering the accident, which remained under investigation, the captain said.

The driver had the green light and was making a left turn when a young teenage boy on a bike can very fast down the street and rammed into the car. The car immediately stopped after impact and 911 was called. The young teenager was not wearing a helmet and was not using a bike lane/ pedestrian lane which was right across the street. The teenage boy had the seizure Not the driver.

The boy on the bike was having seizures after he flipped onto the ground! He was not smart enough to slow down on his fixer bike on a downhill. He was also not smart enough to wear bright clothes but instead all dark clothing!

It was the teenage boy who had the seizure not the driver
And also from what I saw the biking teenager was coming down the street a bit too fast for the driver to react in time.

Thanks everyone for chiming in on what you saw. During incidents like this, when we are not at the scene, we rely on information from the sheriff's station watch commander, who is slowly obtaining info as it comes in. So everything that is published is what we are being directly told by the watch commander during that particular shift -- it just so happened this incident was fluid and details were pending. I'm waiting for the official accident report, at which time all details will be clarified in an updated article! But it's great to know our readers are out there to keep us informed and willing to share their perspectives. Keep the comments rolling in, we truly welcome them! ~ MarieSam, Editor
