The  recorded 17 Part I felony crimes during this period. Vehicle thefts were up, robberies, commercial burglaries, and vehicle burglaries remained the same, and residential burglaries declined. Sheriff's safety tip: Again we can see that leaving windows open to keep the home cool can lead to a resident becoming a victim of a residential burglary. Make sure that you check all windows and doors prior to leaving, and that they are all secured.

COMMERCIAL/OTHER STRUCTURE BURGLARIES

Four commercial burglaries were again investigated this week. Three closed businesses and a school were targeted, where two glass doors were shattered, a window was broken, and door kicked in. Computers and monitors were stolen. The 2011 weekly average in “other structure”/commercial burglaries is 3.0.

VEHICLE BURGLARIES

Vehicle burglaries also remained the same at five this week. All were in high-volume commercial parking lots, and four were SUVs. Medical devices, laptop computers, backpacks, wallets, credit cards, and an ID were missing. The new 2011 weekly average in vehicle burglaries is 5.6.

Sheriff's safety tip: Just because your vehicle is in the driveway doesn’t mean it cannot be the target of a vehicle burglary. Make sure that nothing can be seen inside that would appeal to a thief. Secure it in the trunk or take it with you.

VEHICLE THEFTS

Vehicle thefts rose from three to six. Five cases occurred in high-volume commercial parking lots. Three SUVs, two Hondas, and an Infinity were stolen. The current 2011 weekly average in this category is 2.8.

Sheriff's safety tip: We always promote the use of steering wheel locking devices as great visible deterrents, but also endorse the use of tracking devices that can lead to the speedy recovery of your stolen vehicle.
