Cerritos Weekly Crime Recap: March 7 - March 14

Cerritos remained relatively crime-free during this period except for vehicle burglaries, which continues to be the crime of choice for thieves.

Editor's Note: The information below comes from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Cerritos Station's weekly crime summary. 

The  logged just seven Part I felony investigations during this period, a drop from 20 total incidents the week before. There were 266 calls for service, and the new 2011 weekly average in calls for service is 255. 

ROBBERIES

There were no robberies reported during this period.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES

There were no residential burglaries reported during this period. The new 2011 weekly average in this category is 3.3

COMMERCIAL/OTHER STRUCTURE BURGLARIES

There were no commercial burglaries reported during this period. The 2011 weekly average in “other structure”/commercial burglaries is now 3.2.

VEHICLE BURGLARIES

Vehicle burglaries dropped from eight to three during this period. All three break-ins occurred in high-volume commercial parking lots, and all three involved SUVs. A GPS unit along with purses, ID, cell phones, and cash were taken. The 2011 weekly average in vehicle burglaries is now 5.7.

Sheriff's safety tip: Vehicle burglars rarely enter your vehicle to just look around, but are instead attracted to an item that they can see through the car windows. If your property is valuable and important to you, consider leaving it at home or taking it with you when you exit the vehicle. Remember, law enforcement officers cannot protect you from vehicle burglars. Only you can prevent your own vehicle from being broken into.

VEHICLE THEFTS

There were no vehicle thefts logged for this reporting period. The 2011 weekly average in vehicle thefts is now 2.4.
