CHP Pursuit of Motorcyclist Ends With Fatal Crash Along Cerritos-Santa Fe Springs Border

A 31-year-old motorcyclist being chased by the CHP sped through a red light on the Cerritos-Santa Fe Springs border Saturday morning and crashed into a car; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 31-year-old motorcyclist from Fontana evaded a California Highway Patrol officer during a freeway pursuit earlier today, but was killed moments later when he ran a red light along the Cerritos-Santa Fe Springs border and struck a car.

The motorcyclist died on the pavement on Carmenita Road and Alondra Boulevard, CHP officers said. 

The chase began about 12:45 a.m. Saturday, when a CHP officer on routine patrol tried to stop a motorcyclist speeding on the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway. The rider of the 2007 Kawasaki, refused to stop, according to a CHP statement.

The motorcyclist exited at Carmenita Road and the pursuing CHP officer lost sight of him as the bike disappeared to the south on Carmenita.

Moments later, the same motorcycle blew through a red light at Alondra Boulevard, where it slammed into the side of a westbound Ford Focus driven by a 77-year-old Norwalk man.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and onto the eastbound lanes of Alondra Boulevard. He died at the scene, and his name was being withheld pending notification of his family, the CHP said.

The man in the Ford suffered minor injuries.
