CHP Uses Spike Strip to Stop Wrongway Driver on 605 Freeway

The driver first entered the wrong direction of the 605 freeway at the Cerritos-Lakewood border.

A man authorities believe may have been suffering from diabetic complications drove about eight miles going northbound on the southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway Tuesday night before being pulled over by California Highway Patrol officers using a spike strip.

The man started at the Del Amo Boulevard on-ramp on the border of Cerritos and Lakewood about 7:45 p.m. July 23 and drove for about 10 minutes, reaching Telegraph Avenue, said CHP Officer Tatiana Sauquillo.

The man was taken to a hospital, Sauquillo said.
