Coroner ID's Norwalk Man Killed in 91 Freeway Crash in Cerritos

The 35-year-old was killed in an early Thursday morning crash on the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway at Norwalk Boulevard.

Editor's Note: A fundraiser to help the family of Gerardo Angel will be held at 11813 Carson St. in Hawaiian Gardens on Saturday, Oct. 27 starting at noon. Food and refreshments will be available for donation.

The coroner's office today identified the driver who was killed when he rear-ended a big rig on the on the Artesia (91) Freeway early Thursday.

Gerardo Angel, 35, of Norwalk died in the accident, which was reported at 1:45 a.m. Oct. 25 on the 91 Freeway at Norwalk Boulevard, according to a coroner's investigator.

A CHP sergeant said that the victim's compact car had slammed into the back end of a big rig that was re-entering traffic after pulling over so the driver could secure the load on his flatbed trailer. CHP immediately issued a SigAlert for the No. 2, 3, and 4 lanes to accomodate the accident investigation.

Angel was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and support through this tragedy. He was the best uncle anyone could ever ask for, he showed me how to walk, took me on my first camping/hunting trip, and he always let me know that I could count on hi and that he loved me. So sad that God took him so young. I miss you Tio!

God bless his family I know him from one of his jobs and my husband and I were torn. He was so young, so kind, and a beautiful individual. I am at a loss for words over such a horrible tragedy. God heal his family and protect them always. Angel you will be missed.

I guarantee one thing for sure, this man had the midas touch as far as friends go. I met Angel seven years ago my first day at work, he was always a class act. Sure he'd joke and play... but would drop everything to help an old lady to her seat or help anyone in need, I learned a lot from him in that respect. I will never forget Angel, heart for days, and never without a smile. love you man!
