Deputies Search for Murder Suspect in Artesia, Long Beach

Police ask for help from anyone who may the whereabouts of a man suspected of shooting a 19-year-old Filipino- American man in Artesia on July 27.

Sheriff's homicide detectives were searching today for a murder suspect accused of fatally shooting a 19-year-old Filipino- American man in Artesia.

The shooting took place at about 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 27 in the parking lot of the 11600 block of South Street in Artesia, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Nicole Nishida.

The victim, Timothy Teopaco, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Nishida. The alleged shooter, Boren Lay, a 19- year-old Cambodian-American, was identified by witnesses as the gunman.

According to the department, a group of men were inside a local restaurant when a patron walked up to one of the men and started an argument. One of the group called over his friends to help him. Just then Teopaco arrived in the parking lot of that restaurant and was shot, allegedly by Lay.

A murder warrant was issued for Lay's arrest, Nishida said.
