Deputy Injured When Drunk Driver Crashes into his Squad Car

The incident happened 9:20 p.m. Saturday at 18030 Clarkdale Ave. in Artesia.

A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy suffered a leg injury when an alleged drunk driver in a Honda Civic struck his patrol car while he was standing next to it during an unrelated call tonight in Artesia, a lieutenant said.

The incident occurred at 9:20 p.m. Saturday at 18030 Clarkdale Ave., according to Lt. Matthew Vander Horck of the Lakewood Sheriff's Station.

"The deputy's car was parked when the southbound drunk driver collided into his vehicle and the vehicle hit the deputy knocking him down injuring his leg," Vander Horck said.

The injury "seems minor," he said. The deputy was transported to a hospital for treatment. The drunk driving suspect in the Honda Civic was arrested.

The deputy was responding to an unrelated call when his patrol car was struck, Vander Horck said.
