Residents in the area told Patch.com that the school's alarms had been going off periodically throughout the day on Monday, but the school was closed due to a district-wide furlough day.

However, several sheriff's patrol cars arrived at the campus' parking lot just after midnight Tuesday after someone apparently tried to break into one of the classrooms through a window, a deputy from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Cerritos Station told Patch.com at the scene.
