VIDEO: Fire Destroys Classrooms at Elliot Elementary School, Two Firefighters Hurt

The cause of the blaze that left two firefighters with minor burns is under investigation.

Two Los Angeles County firefighters suffered minor burns today while dousing a pre-dawn blaze that ripped through two classrooms and a bungalow at in Artesia, authorities said.

The blaze at the school located at 18415 Cortner Ave. was reported at 2:42 a.m., and a knockdown was declared at 3:07 a.m, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Andre Gougis.

The flames destroyed two classrooms and an adjoining bungalow, according to Fire Department.

One firefighter suffered minor burns to a hand while another had minor burns to a cheek, according to reports from the scene.

A man who works for the school's maintenance department told Patch that the school was open and classes would continue today. He said the bulk of the fire occurred in a "portable that was being worked on," adding that the "rest of the campus was not affected."

An investigation was under way to determine what sparked the blaze.
