Flames Rip Through Vacant Cerritos House

An unoccupied two-story house undergoing renovations was damaged by a fire in Cerritos Thursday morning, but no one was hurt.

The fire was reported in the 19400 block of Jacob Avenue around 12:40 a.m., according to Robert Diaz, a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher. Around 20 firefighters had it out by 1:17 a.m., he said.

Before the knockdown, flames could be seen burning through the roof of the home, news photographers reported from the scene. A neighbor told one of them that the fire-stricken home, which was unoccupied, was sold recently and was undergoing renovations.
